What is Therapeutic Yoga?
This phrase can mean many different things to different providers, therapists and clients.
It is not a protected term so it is important you understand how different therapists and businesses approach it.
How we define it
Therapy and yoga can be combined to support physical, emotional, and psychological healing. Yoga can support the integration of body, mind, and spirit. This is not spiritual counseling or spiritual direction. We weave together a variety of healing techniques based on Eastern yogic traditions and Western psychotherapy practices. Our services that stem from our background with yoga include mindful movement, meditation, breath work, sound healing and yoga nidra. Integrating yoga and traditional therapy can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This activation helps reduce symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and chronic stress. It aids in learning to find a state of calm. This mind-body approach improves emotional regulation, body awareness, and resilience.
Sessions can be either in-person in Dedham, Mass., or virtual. Virtual Yoga Therapy sessions are available to clients anywhere and typically not covered by insurance but plans vary.
