What is the intake process like?

After you fill out the service request form, we will follow up by sending you a brief therapy questionnaire. In the questionnaire, you’ll fill out information you feel comfortable sharing about what type of therapy you’re seeking and what your goals are. After that, we will schedule you with a clinician, add you to the waitlist if there is one, or give you referrals if it seems our services are not a good fit. Before your first session we send you intake documents or you can complete them during the first session.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes, almost all modalities can be done in a virtual appointment except neurofeedback, aerial yoga and sound healing.

What should I expect in a first session?

We like to take our time at Embodying Compassion — not too fast, not too slow. You participate in setting that pace, and we might have some input, too. The first six sessions will to give us time to determine together if our services are a good fit for your needs. By the sixth session, we will either agree to continue working together or offer you referrals to services that might better fit your goals.

In a first session, we generally go over basic policies and, if the session is in-person, show you the building. The clinician shares a little more about their approach and answers questions you may have.

From there, your clinician will either ask you what is bringing you in generally and you take it from there, or they can ask more specific and guiding questions. There is no pressure to cover everything in the first session. Some clients will choose to have a more formal diagnostic session and others choose a more organic approach. We co-create the space, pace and approach with you.

During the first few sessions of your time in therapy, we will determine some general goals and a treatment plan. While we do need to provide a diagnosis for insurance purposes, we approach the process in a human-centered way.

For one-time yoga services like sound healing, yoga, yoga nidra, meditation, your provider will briefly introduce themself and then hear a little about what you hope to get from the session and then they will jump in!

How do I get to the office, and what should I expect when I get there?

We are located in the heart of Dedham Square. There is a free parking lot for clients to use and plentiful free street parking. New clients will receive an email with details about finding our office so you know what to expect. There is a bus stop directly outside of our office door.

Our office is located on the second floor, we have an elevator and stairs. The building is ADA compliant.

There are two bathrooms in the building and access to tea and water.

This is not a scent-free office building. There are also dogs occasionally in the building.

What steps do you take to ensure clients’ privacy?

Our privacy practices are in accordance with HIPAA regulations. At the start of services, we will supply you with more detailed information on HIPAA and all of our policies. Our privacy practices are posted on the Service Request Page

Are you culturally sensitive / queer-allied?

Yes, and we believe exploring the intersection of identities between provider and client can be beneficial in understanding our work together. We strive to understand the unique background of all clients and people, understanding impacts of larger systematic oppression and privilege without making assumptions.

We are a queer-owned business and a trans-affirming space.
