About

Our mission at Embodying Compassion is to provide integrative, high-quality psychotherapy. We integrate yoga, somatic and traditional therapy for adults in Massachusetts. Our focus is on those who are stuck reliving habitual patterns and experiencing hurt due to trauma.

Our office is located in a collective space, which includes a variety of healing professions; some of the spaces offer massage, nutrition, PT and other types of body work.

Our approach

The approach at Embodying Compassion is rooted in the belief that we all have inherent resiliency, innate compassion and the importance of community along our journey. We all get stuck sometimes and it takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out for help. We believe that all humans ultimately do have the choice of how to respond to every moment, but often it is hard to access that choice because of an accumulation of experiences that understandably keep us stuck in habitual patterns. There are skills and tools used in yoga therapy and psychotherapy that helps us access these choices more, thus accessing the power of untapped potential to transform our inner world and consequentially the outer-world.

Upon arrival at the office, we work compassionately and authentically with you to create a space where we can effectively work together on your goals. Collaboration, curiosity, and a mindful pace will help us explore automatic patterns, current and past stressors that are getting in the way of healing, growth, and self-realization. We integrate several modalities of healing and work with you to establish your preference in treatment approaches.

Our specialization:

We primarily work with adults 18-40 years of age. In collaboration with clients we assess if our training and approach might be a good fit with goals for healing and growth.

Our specialization is in working with people who have experienced complex, chronic or single incident traumatic experiences. We use the definition of trauma that describes a traumatic experience as anything that overwhelms our systems capacity to cope and separates us from experiencing our own innate wisdom. When this happens it often leads to experiences that get labeled as symptoms, such as trouble sleeping, difficulty with emotion (too much or too little), challenges in relationships to others and self, difficulty with executive functioning, memory issues, chronic pain, touch sensitivity, sensory overwhelm, dissociation, self-harm, suicidal ideation, over all nervous system disregulation etc.

If you are experiencing this, find hope in the fact that change is inevitable and if we harness that reality with intention and effort, we can transform even the most challenging of experiences and situations.

About therapist self disclosure

While historically, therapists share limited information about themselves in order to create a blank canvas for clients to project their thoughts and feelings, we take a bit of a different approach.

At Embodying Compassion, we believe therapists need to show up authentically to build healing relationships grounded in reality. We also value boundaries – recognizing that they are not black and white, and that therapeutic relationships are unique. With that in mind, we believe the therapist’s role is to create a sacred space for healing and growth and provide tools for clients to explore inward. The client’s role is to do the hard work of changing habitual patterns and healing.

Though power dynamics naturally exist, we aim to discuss and navigate them together. Embodying Compassion therapists will share personal information only with the intention of aiding a client’s healing journey. When clients prefer to know nothing or very little about the therapist, we do our best to honor that while working in a way that is true to us. When clients want to know more, we discuss in a mindful, skilled manner, always keeping an eye on the intention.
